What is the PTE Test

PTE test is a very important exam for all those who are preparing to join any of the universities and colleges across India. The PTE stands for Pearson VUE, which is one of the most popular English language proficiency tests conducted by Pearson Education Limited. It is an internationally recognized standardised test that measures your ability to communicate in English. This test is used as a requirement for admission into many schools and institutions around the world.

The PTE (Pearson Vue) is a standardized test developed by Pearson Education Limited. The test was first introduced in 2000 and has been updated several times since then. The current version of this test is called ‘Pearson Vue’ or ‘Vue’.

The test is designed to measure your level of English Language Proficiency. It consists of four parts: Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Writing & Editing and Speaking. These sections are made up of multiple choice questions, short answer questions and essay based questions.

In order to qualify you need to score at least 60% marks on each section. However, if you have taken a TOEFL/ IELTS exam earlier than 2012, you can apply for a waiver from the minimum required score. You will be given a letter of recommendation from your previous institution stating that you have met the requirements.

What is the PTE test format?

The PTE test is held online and it lasts for about 3 hours. There are 4 different types of question formats in the test. They include Text Completion, Multiple Choice, Short Answer and Essay Based Questions. Each type of question has its own difficulty level.

Text Completion – It is similar to the SAT Subject Tests. In this section, there will be two passages with 6-8 sentences per passage. Your task will be to choose the correct word or phrase from the six options provided. If you get more than three wrong answers, you will not be able to proceed further.

Multiple Choice – This is the most common type of question in the PTE test. Here, you will find five choices marked A, B, C, D and E. You will also find a blank space below them where you need to select the best option.

Short Answer – In this section, you will be asked to write a paragraph or a few paragraphs answering a set question. There will be only one right answer but you may use as many words as you want.

Essay Based Question – In this section, there is no right or wrong answer. Instead, you will be given four statements and you need to pick out the statement that best fits the situation described in the question.

How do I prepare for the PTE test?

You should also practise writing essays in advance. Make sure you understand the structure of the essay and how to organize your thoughts. You should also make sure that you follow all the rules while writing an essay.

Practise reading comprehension and listening comprehension questions. Try to solve these problems yourself first before asking someone else to check your work.

Also, you should try solving sample papers so that you can see how the test questions are structured. Once you have solved those questions, you should go ahead and try solving some other sample papers.

Once you have practiced enough, you should then move onto the speaking part. Practice speaking by recording yourself on video and listen to it repeatedly until you become comfortable with the way you speak.
